Fire Station #8 Update
By Marguarite Reed Gooden
Fire Station 8 remaining a part of our community has been deeply important to me. My father is currently one of four remaining of the original first Black paid Firefighters in Arlington from Station 8. Station 8, a focal point of the Hall’s Hill community, has a history of providing our community with exceptional service, a legacy that continues today! I loved how our community rallied and worked so hard along with the county appointed task force to assure it remains in its current location.
I was thrilled by the County Board’s 5-0 vote to buy the two houses next to the station in order to erect the temporary station at this location. Our Civic Association and entire community should be proud of the way we were able to work diligently with our surrounding neighbors and county officials to accomplish the goal of keeping this legendary station in its original location. I look forward to working with county officials as the design and construction of our new station begins.
