Black History Month
By: Wilma Jones
Many people know Halls Hill – High View Park as an historic neighborhood with pioneers in the civil rights struggle, school integration among other significant things. Black History Month is a time to remember these events and celebrate our history.
As a current HVP resident and a descendant of residents who lived here for over 100 years, I am working on a book and website project to tell my family's story woven around 10 memories from the Halls Hill neighborhood. The book draws from historic records, the 1940 US Census and personal memories of my siblings and our mom, Mrs. Idabel Greene Jones, who has spent her entire life in Halls Hill since she was born in 1922. The book also serves as a tribute to our dad, George Mason Jones, Sr, who died in 2014.
